Day 2: Pioneers

So yesterday was the 24th of July, the day members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrate their pioneer heritage. We had a wonderful gathering at Scootney Reservoir with a BBQ and playing in the water. Before we enjoyed the activities we went through out daily activities and then some problems. I'll go through and give you a little recap.

- Woke up with Rich at 5 to get him off to work
- Nathan woke up at 5:30
- By 8 I was filling a little crappy and just wanted to sleep all morning. Thank goodness Oomi Zoomi was on and occupied Nathan for 30 min's so I could lay down.
- Did laundry and cleaned up house.
- Put Nathan down for a nap.
- I took a much needed nap. It seems all I want to do is sleep lately. Oh the joys of being pregnant.
- Got up made a cake for BBQ.
- Did dishes, finished laundry.
- Nathan got up, not the happiest little boy right then. Cried to get dressed, cried because I made him go potty, threw a fit to get his shoes on so we could head to the Reservoir.
- Cried the whole way to the reservoir. 15 min.
- Get a call from Rich, blew a gasket in the pickup doesn't know if he will make it home.
- Rich makes it home, burns 3/4 of a tank of fuel to get home.
- Pick Rich up and head to the Reservoir.
- Nathan cries the whole what there, Rich and I trying not to lose our patience.
- Get there eat, relax and jet ski with friends for awhile.
- Get home baths, feed Nathan Mac N' Cheese at 9:30 and we are all in bed by 10:30 pm.

Now what a long day, sorry quite a few events nothing out of the ordinary except for the pickup. When laying in bed I was thinking wow what a day. Then I remembered I didn't write on my blog today and decided it had to wait until tomorrow. Also the thought came to me what was it like for the Pioneers today compared to your day.

- Well I had AC the whole day in my home to stay cool! In the 90's today, plus being 8 months pregnant.
- I had the TV to occupy my little boy so I could take a little nap.
- Washed cloths in washer, not in the river or stream. Plus I have multiple pairs which they didn't.
- Put my little boy down for nap in a soft bed, with AC.
- I got to take another nap.
- Finished the dish's in a sink with hot water I probably changed 3 times before actually doing them.
- Didn't have to worry about pee soaked sheets or wet cloths do to pull-ups.
- My little boy cried for 30 because he wanted to go home, probably not for days.
- Had communication with my husband while he drove home to make sure he made it safely.
- Making Mac N' cheese at 9:30 at night because my little boy was hungry, plus everyone getting clean and sleeping in nice comfortable beds.

I can only imagine how many pioneers would have loved to have one of these events in their lives while crossing the plains. How lucky we are, and most of the time we don't even know it.

While sitting at the party someone asked me, "Did I brave it and stay the night at the Reservoir?" I laughed and said, "No way I am not camping in the heat, I have AC in my house why would I be miserable all night?" I wish for one day that I could take the place of a pioneer and give them my bed for night and sleep in the heat or cold for them one night. What strong individuals they are, and how I wish I was more like them.

May we all remember how much we have, and how much we COULD live without.

Brittney
